How I can help

I work with founders, MDs and CEOs of £3–15m businesses who need senior finance thinking — without the cost of a full-time hire.

There are two ways to work together, depending on where your business is and what you need most.

Fractional FD Retainer

What is included?

An ongoing finance partnership, embedded in your business on a retained basis. I become your senior finance function — attending leadership meetings, owning your reporting and sitting alongside you when the big decisions are being made.

Most clients start with two days a month and scale from there. The engagement is built around what your business actually needs, not a generic package.

Who this is for:

This works best if you’re running a business doing £3–15m in revenue and you’ve outgrown your current finance setup. You know the numbers matter more now than they did two years ago. You just don’t have the right person helping you read them.

You might be a founder who built the business over five to ten years. You might be a PE-backed CEO who needs rigour and investor-ready reporting. Either way, you need a senior finance partner — not another pair of hands in the accounts.

Step 1 - Discovery call

A 30-minute conversation to understand your business, your numbers and your pressure points.

No pitch, no obligation.

Step 2 — Diagnostic day

Before any ongoing engagement starts, I spend a day deep in your finances.

You’ll get a clear report on what I’d focus on first — whether we go further together or not.

Step 3 — Retained engagement

We agree a scope and a rhythm.

Typically two days a month to start, with a clear structure for what gets done, when and how you’ll see it.

Engagements are typically structured as a minimum of two days per month. Day rate available for shorter or project-based work.

Project Work

Not every business needs an ongoing engagement. Sometimes you need senior finance thinking for a defined piece of work — a model that needs building properly, a reporting pack that needs redesigning, or a process that needs fixing before it causes a problem.

I take on a small number of project engagements each quarter. Each one is scoped clearly upfront, delivered to a defined brief and built to last — not just good enough for now.

Project Types

Financial modelling

A properly built financial model — whether that’s a three-statement model, a scenario planner, a pricing model or a business case. Built in Excel or Google Sheets, documented and handed over so you can actually use it.

Management reporting

A redesign of what your monthly numbers look like and how they’re presented. Clear, consistent and built around the decisions you actually need to make — not what your accounting software spits out by default.

Board pack design

A board pack that does the job it’s supposed to do. The right structure, the right narrative, the right level of detail. Designed to work for investors, NEDs and leadership teams alike.

Cash flow forecasting

A rolling cash flow forecast that you’ll actually trust. Whether you need a 13-week view for operational decisions or a 12-month view for planning, I’ll build it and show you how to keep it updated.

Budgeting & planning

A budget process that isn’t painful and a plan that reflects where the business is actually heading. Annual budgets, quarterly reforecasts and the model underneath them.

Transformation

From upgrades or a full finance system roll-out to process re-engineering and creating efficiencies within your existing finance team.  I have many examples and extensive experience from initial conception through delivery of the final product.

How project work is scoped

Every project starts with a conversation to understand the brief clearly. I’ll come back to you with a scope, a timeline and a day-rate cost before any work begins. No surprises.

Most projects run between one and five days. Larger or more complex briefs are scoped case by case.

Availability for project work is limited. If you have a defined need, get in touch early.

NOT SURE WHERE TO START?

Start with a diagnostic day

If you’re not sure whether you need an ongoing engagement or a specific project — or whether you need me at all — a diagnostic day is the right place to start.

One day in your numbers. A clear report on what I’d focus on first. Actionable whether we go further together or not.
