About Jon
I'm Jon Fellows, founder of Additional Financial Consultants and a qualified FCCA finance leader.
I help businesses between £3m and £15m build the finance layer that sits between their bookkeeper and a full-time FD hire.
Most businesses at this stage have the same setup: a bookkeeper who keeps the day-to-day running smoothly and an accountant who handles compliance and year-end. Both are essential. But neither is set up to do what a finance director does: connect the numbers to the strategy, build forecasts you can trust and sit alongside the leadership team when the big decisions are being made.
That’s the gap I fill. Not by replacing anyone, but by adding the layer that’s missing.
My Background
I’ve spent my career in senior finance roles across a range of industries. I’ve led finance teams, built reporting frameworks from scratch, delivered finance transformation programmes and sat in the boardrooms where financial data drives decisions.
I’ve worked with PE-backed businesses where investor-ready reporting and financial rigour weren’t optional. I’ve led shared services functions at scale, managing the operational side of finance across multiple entities. And I’ve repeatedly stepped into organisations where the finance function needed tightening up and I left them in a better place.
What I’ve seen across all of these roles is a pattern: the businesses that make the best decisions are the ones where finance isn’t just a back-office function, it’s a strategic partner in the room.
Why I started Additional Financial Consultants
I kept seeing the same thing. The businesses that needed senior finance thinking the most are the ones scaling from £3m to £15m, making big decisions every month, growing faster than their finance setup could handle and were the ones who couldn’t justify a full-time FD at £100k+.
So they went without. The bookkeeper kept things moving. The accountant filed the returns. But nobody was connecting the numbers to the strategy. Nobody was in the room when the big decisions were being made, asking “what do the finances tell us?”
I set up Additional Financial Consultants to change that. To give growing businesses access to the kind of senior finance thinking that used to be reserved for companies with six-figure FD salaries, but in a way that’s flexible, practical and built around what each business actually needs.
How I work
I’m not a consultant who writes a report and disappears. I work alongside founders and leadership teams on a retained basis; typically starting at 2 days a month and scaling up as priorities become clear. Most clients settle around a day or two per week.
I also take on standalone projects; financial model builds, board pack design, fundraising preparation, or anything where you need senior finance thinking for a defined piece of work.
Every engagement starts with a conversation, usually followed by a diagnostic day where I spend a day deep in your numbers and deliver a clear picture of what to focus on first.
My approach
I bring calm, commercial judgement and a focus on what matters most. I don’t do theory and I don’t do jargon. I work ON the business with you, not just IN the numbers.
The founders I work with tell me they value three things: straight talking, practical solutions and someone who genuinely cares about their business succeeding. That’s what I aim to deliver every day.
